Montegray Syrah From the Montegray vineyard which is a 3.5 Ha pice of land. It is on a spur, carved in former years by a stream, no longer visible from the vineyard. It is a dry river bed, consisting of big river boulders and alluvial soil. It slopes toward the road below, ensuring excellent drainage. The vineyard was planted in 2002.
The bunches are crushed, destalked and the mash pumped to open oak fermenters. A portion of stalks are added back for extra structure. Regular punch downs ensures good colour and skin tannin extraction. Soon after fermentation the wine is pressed.
The Montegray Syrah is matured in older oak barrels.
The wine is robust, yet elegant with luscious and full flavoured spice, cinnamon. Plum fruit sweetens the finish. A small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon was added for mid palate structure.
