Montegray Chenin Blanc 2017
Chenin Blanc has been one of the most widely planted varieties in South Africa for a long time. It grows well in our climate ad its versatility makes it a vital partner in many white blends and sweet wines. Thanks to discerning wine makers, its revival in South Africa, has catapulted Chenin Blanc into the limelight, as a strong varietal wine when sourced from carefully tended vineyards, designed to showcase the best the grapes can offer.
Apart from the Loire Valley in France, where it makes luscious wines for long ageing and bottle fermented sparkling wines, it is not grown in considerate volume elsewhere in any wine growing region of the world. The Cape winelands have made Chenin Blanc its own grape.
The Montegray Chenin Blanc 2017 is a blend of 2 different vineyards, each with its own distinctive character. The fresh tropical fruit expression of the one wine harmonizes well with the others firm weighted straw like mid palate. This portion was wooded for a few months. Honey, citrus and a slight salty finish rounds it off.
